Valerie grew up in Merritt, just 40 minutes south of Kamloops, where you can often find her visiting her parents. Immediately out of high school, Valerie attended the turf grass management program at Olds College while working as a groundskeeper at the Merritt Golf and Country Club.
After mastering the art of groundskeeping at the MGCC, Valerie joined Gillespie Lawyers in 2010. She has seen many roles at Gillespie Lawyers, starting in 2010 as file clerk after obtaining a legal assistant Diploma from SAIT. From file clerk, she moved through the firm’s staff ranks to become a senior assistant in solicitor’s practice areas. After 2 years as a senior assistant, she began her pursuit of becoming a lawyer. She obtained a BA in Justice Studies from Royal Roads University while continuing to work full time with Gillespie. Attending law school in Kamloops at TRU allowed Valerie to continue to be a part of the Gillespie family, working part time and summers during school. After graduation, Valerie became an articled student with Gillespie Lawyers. After completing her “articles”, Valerie plans to practice in real estate, business and estate planning areas, while continuing to have a hand in civil litigation.
When not practicing law, Valerie, her husband, and their great dane, Donna, can be found exploring niche areas of BC in their trailer, checking destinations off their ever-growing backpacker list or participating in recreational sports. Valerie enjoys all dynamics of sports, including coaching girl’s volleyball, out-driving the boys on the links, roving in the outfield, cheering on the 6-time Superbowl champions, and throwing stones on the rink.
